Frankly, I was disgusted to read Sally's comment. I have bought two rabbits from Sunflower Nursery and I can assure anyone who reads Sally's inaccurate fodder that there was value for every penny spent. Its a shame to see fantastic services such as these being put down by people who dont know the facts they state. Hope this was helpful x |

hi there just wanted a little advice. we hav just bought a baby rabbit, he is 6 wks old and i just wondered at what age i should start giving him fresh vegetables. i also read some of the comments on your page and cannot believe how rude some people can be! if they have no intention of buying a rabbit what business is it of theirs anyway! hope you canhelp me with the above question, thanx, Cheryl

Hi, I personally tend not to give babies fruit and veg until they are a couple of months old. It is up to you though but wait for a bit longer if you can so that it doesnt upset his/her tummy. When you do start on veg, start with things like carrots and avoid watery veg for a while, never give iceberg lettuce and give fruit in moderation, it is very sweet for them. See our 'resources' page for tips on what fruit and veg to give, and if you have anymore questions just email me Nicola |

HI Nicola I was very sad to see the nasty comments on your page. Okay I accept that you are not the cheapest around but I love Leon that I purchased from you and he is sitting with me as I type this message. He is the nicest Lionhead that I have owned. Maybe people should check the facts! Just because the mini Lionhead is the accepted standard doesn't mean that they were always this small! I can't wait to send you pics of him here and maybe his offspring too. You have my full support as I have seen your care for your rabbits. Come visit my website anytime at-www. freewebs.com/bouncingbunny and your site is beautiful. I just don't have the same skills!!

I noticed that on your list of veh you stated that a rabbit can have celery, as a vet i know that this would have the same affect as lettuce, i wouldnt recommend any type of lettuce or cut grass. |

Hi, Rupert is lovely, he's such a character. Rupert is expecting his next litter with Bailey in about 3 weeks time, and he usually always gives us some beige babies like himself so keep a look out for when they are born. Nicola |

Hi Nikki, just wanted to let you know that little nutmeg has settled in really well, she definitely rools to roost in this house. she is the friendlist bunny we have ever had, and trust me we have had a few. i would def recmmend you to others, i already have done! i would have paid a lot more for her than £40, in fact i have actually paid 60 for a mini lop before now because she was a great show rabbit - she may have won lots of prizes but she was nasty when she wanted to be and definitely did not enjoy her cuddles like nutmeg does. keep up the good work Zoe |

We've named him Louis and would love to send you some photo's when he's a little older. Thanks for all your advise and it was a pleasure to meet you and your rabbits last week. Your web site is excellent, I still look at it even though I've bought one of your rabbits. Amanda & Louis xx |

Can I just start by pointing out that the only people who have bad comments are people that have not bought a rabbit from us. At the end of the day you pay what you want to pay and if you dont want to pay £4o you just dont - we dont have a monopoly on rabbits, and dont claim that there arent cheaper rabbits out there, yet people continue to come to us. A good way of ensuring a good home for a rabbit is through the waiting lists and prices we have - people who are willing to wait and pay that little bit extra give their rabbits brilliant homes and dont just buy on impulse (as all the people who run rabbit shelters will tell you that all rabbits bought on impulse from pet shops have been - people who dont give it full consideration for the life time of the rabbit). Many of our customers become friends and we often look after rabbits while their owners are on holiday and see how well they are looked after - one person has now bought 8 rabbits from us and had not yet complained! :) People have always commented on how useful and good our website is, and just because we have good website skills does not make it too business-like. Our waiting lists speak for themselves, we never have an unsold rabbit and always have waiting lists for future litters - people recommend their friends and family who then come to us and lets face it you wouldnt recomend something you werent happy with.
This is merely a guestbook, not a forum for discussion, so if you would like to express more of your opinions please do it elsewhere. People have different levels of income and, just as they choose whether to shop at Asda, Tesco, Aldi or Marks & Spencers, they choose where they want to shop for a rabbit. People who dont like it dont have to come to us, end of. Many types of people come to me to buy a rabbit - first time owners, families, fellow breeders, and all are happy with their purchase. I have never had someone who has come to the view rabbits and not bought one. My rabbits are purely a hobby, whatever you may think, and people who think you can live of selling rabbits at £40 each need to seriously think again. I also breed african pygmy hedgehogs and trust me they cost a LOT more to keep than they make as they are not prolofic breeders, not great mothers and we only own one female. I also own hamsters, gerbils and short tailed oppossums which I do not breed and which also cost a lot of money to keep. All in all, ALL of my animals have a very good life here and I only want the babies that I sell to enjoy the same - and I think I do my absolute best in ensuring that in every way that I can.
If there was any ever evidence that I am not in it for the money then it comes from the fact that I am just finishing my 3rd year at Lancaster University studying Psychology and am about to begin a fantastic career in Psychology. It has been incredibly difficult to balance studies with animal care but I have done very well at it - even to the extent that the animals have come before my studies on numerous occassions. I do not need the money from the rabbits, I merely enjoy a very delightful hobby since I have kept rabbits since the age of 3, and as I before mentioned there REALLY isnt any profit in it.
For anyone who cannot afford £40 for a rabbit, please do not feel that you have to - there are many cheaper rabbits out there - you could even rescue one from a shelter. Having sold rabbits at many different prices, even giving some away for free, we have gained a great insight into the many different types of people who come for the different price brakets.
We have had it suggested to us that the negative comments are coming from other breeders who are quite frankly annoyed at the fact that people are willing to pay so much to us when they themselves cannot charge that much. Whoever the comments are coming from, please do it elsewhere.
We will be looking into using our web skills to promote the welfare for rabbits currently residing in shelters, who are either free or only for a small fee. We hope this will be considered by the people who disagree with paying £40, before they continue to comment, as we too raise awareness about other rabbits and their needs. We do get a lot of hits from google and other websites so we hope that this awareness will increase the number of people looking to get a rabbit, or other animal, from a shelter.

I agree with you. I have left a comment left on Sally's post below after coming to your website I was having a great time looking around and then shocked to read this guestbook. I question why someone like sally leaves such commments. Does it not make sense that people will only pay what they want etc - people like sally can go to others, people who value a rabbit at £35/40 should stick with you. As a 'customer-to-be' I am capable of making my own choice, i know what i wish to pay ect and above all i know that if i do not wish to pay £35/40 then I can replay to the adverts priced lower. I have been looking for a rabbit for awhile now and these are not the only ones I have seen at £40. I have seen free rabbits, £10 rabbits and commonly £25 rabbits. The fuss people like Sally are making over these rabbits being sold for £15 more is questionable. Personally I do not mind paying £15 more than I have seen other rabbits sold for which I have considered purchasing. When i saw that the rabbits here where £40 I was not shocked or worried and to say that it is immoral - well - I have more to say about the price of petrol, my mortgage and gym fees the latter of which i choose to pay for, just as I choose to not be put off by a £40 rabbit, which in my experience is only £15 more than I was about to pay from someone who I woyuld have had to travel outside of Manchester for. As you can see I have had a lot to say about what I have witnessed here as part of my experience of this website. I am glad to be able to offer support because at the end of the day it is simply a matter of consumer choice. I know I can choose not to pay or to pay, the rabbits here are not the only ones sally - if you do not wish to give your money here go to others. I hope that this does not continue for you and your website as I cannot express how much I have enjoyed looking through your pages until I came to this. With the response to negative comments always going to boil down to - if you don't wish to pay then don't I do hope that people do not get the 'Sheep' syndrome and feel they have to carry on insulting myself and obviously many others who are happy to pay £40. I am sorry for leaving two rather long and rambling comments but as a customer-to-be I just think it very silly of anyone who has a problem with people valuing a rabbit at any price. If a breeder values their rabbit at £100 then I have a choice (and so did they to come up with such), £50 I have a choice, £40 I have a choice £25 I have a choice. Like the property market people pay what they feel a house is worth. I feel that I would be more than happy to pay £40. |

Not sure I quite understand the point of the two comments about the pricing of these rabbits below - if you dont want to pay that much then go elsewhere and stopping wasting peoples time. I bought two stunning little mini lops from Sunflower Nursery last year and have not regretted it one bit. My sister also fell in love with them so much so that she bought two herself. They are all lovely rabbits, very well looked after and very friendly. Sunflower Nursery do a great job. I have kept rabbits for years, bought from a variety of places such as pet shops, friends and breeders and I have never had two rabbits as friendly as these. In fact I am thinking of getting too more this year. I would never consider buying from anywhere else as long as I know sunflower nursery is still breeding (and I hope they always do). I know I would never complain about their prices, in fact they could double and I would probably still buy two more! |

Hi, I often think about that little baby - she is the only baby we have ever had in that colour and she was stunning. Would love to see a picture of her some time I bet she has grown a huge amount by now. We have now moved to Manchester but if you would like another bunny just get in touch - we often still travel to Lancaster so could maybe arrange something. Thank you |

Comment on you charging £40 for your rabbits i find it quite immoral that you do charge this price for pet rabbits bred from substandard stock, the whole look of your website says it all BUISINESS look, sorry love you can fool some of the people all the time but not all of the people some of the time .im on your case ,if this were a hobby which clearly it is not a 25 kg sack of food is less than £10,a bale of hay less than £5 a bale of straw less than £5,and a bale of sawdust free or do you mean Shavings less than £7 ok fruit & vegless than £10 at a push.vet bills virtually non exsistent.so we have a grand total of £37 a week Give £3 for vet bills and how many rabbits are you selling and at christmastime too shame on you and now Pygmy Hedgehogs ,GET A LIFE AND A JOB LIKE THE REST OF US,and you pay tax and Ins Oh and are your premises insured for the public?????? and also you state that red eyed white rabbits are rare do you know how many end up in markets for £2 a piece.LOADS I have seen them.Does your local counci know about your little money making HOBBY!
Comment from Nicola
16.04.2008 - 05:33 PM
Can I ask what you mean by substandard stock? All my rabbits were bought from other breeders who breed for show/type, some are still rung, so not sure where that comment was founded.
Secondly: 20kg food = £15, hay = £8, 2 bags straw (because we cannot get bales) = £4 each, wood shavings = £6 and fruit and veg = £15-20 - they eat a lot of this and we have no where else to get it from other than out local supermarket.
Thirdly, I am of the 'new' generation as some people would put it and therefore have computer skills that were not available to the 'old' generation - just because I use these skills in being able to create my own website from scratch and not have to use freewebs like most other breeders does not make it 'business like', it merely makes it practical. You only have to look at the comments to see that people thoroughly enjoy their visit to my website, it is always the first thing that people comment on when they come to visit me.
Finally Quote: "GET A LIFE AND A JOB LIKE THE REST OF US" - I find that a very big presumption to make about someone you have never met. Who says I do not have a job, or a life for that matter, and why would I want to be like the rest of you when you clearly have nothing better to do than to sit and make comments on other people guestbooks? |

I have been shocked by the comments left on this guestbook. 'Sallys' is the most rude and thoughtless. Firstly you have quoted the saying wrong. I am sure that the owner of this website has a life and you sound like your only aim is to tarnish this fab website with comments which do no make sense. I have been looking for a rabbit for a few months and have found this website very useful and plan to contact Sunflower Nursery soon. Let is be said though that these are not the only rabbits I have seen being sold at £35/40 and as a customer I think I can use my own judgement when it comes to how much I wish, want or think I should pay. I know my family would be happy to pay £40 for the rabbit we are about to spend years caring for. As others have now also said if you do not wish to pay £40, can't, wont or think it is 'immoral' (eh!), then you have a free choice not to. It comes down to this, if you find the price too much and do not wish to pay then go to other breeders, a pet shop or rescue a rabbit. I know i am not the only person on here to have already said this but it is just so obvious to me that I really do question why people like sally are leaving these comments. One thing is for sure she has not put me off as I am a capable 45 year old who wishes to pay £40 for the right rabbit. Well done Sunfloer Nursery for coping with these comments so well. My name is Joan and I will be contacting you soon. |

I think that £40 is a very fair price for such beautiful bunnies who have clearly been loved and extremly well looked after. i bought two at christmas and they are fab, very friendly and everyone who sees them falls in love straight away. The food, hay and all the other bits are not cheap and nicola looks after them until they are sold so probably does not make that much anyway. I have no problem paying when you recieve such an outstanding service.

my word! talk about making money from rabbits! you must be rolling in it! £40 for a mini-lop when people are selling them much cheaper and you let them go to new homes at 6 weeks old!!! They shouldn't be leaving until they are 8 weeks old at least! You have waiting lists as well!! I take it that you pay business rates and pay VAT?????
Comment from Nicola
14.04.2008 - 12:55 PM
I dont think you understand the amount of time effort and money that it takes to bring up baby rabbits. I am not 'rolling in it' by any means - all money I make goes back in to the upkeep of my rabbits, however cliche that may sound. I go through a 20kg bag of rabbit food ever single week, along with a whole bale of sawdust, a bale of hay, a lot of straw - not to mention all the fruit and beg! Vets bills, whenever they crop up, also take up a LOT of money. My rabbits are all extremely tame and friendly and I breed for personality and temperament than for type, meaning that people are more than 100% happy with their new little pets when they come to pick them up. I have never had anyone unhappy who has bought a rabbit from me, and all say how friendly and tame they are. People who want a cheap rabbit are more than happy to look elsewhere, but many people have expressed the opinion that they would rather travel further and pay more for one that they know has been brought up extremely well. I am not, by any means, saying that other breeders who sell their babies for slightly cheaper dont have friendly and tame rabbits, people are more than welcome to buy from them if they choose, it just so happens that they do not. If you would like to talk to me further, or would like to express any more of your opinions, please email me. Nicola |
